My Next Watch & You'll Never Guess It ⌚️
Unless I "Get The Call"
Hey Watch Nerds!
Fun fact. Germany is one of the top five watch exporters in the world, but its watchmaking industry is small compared to other countries. The German watch industry has a history of hundreds of years, with most production taking place in historic centers like Pforzheim, Glashütte, and the Black Forest.
Here’s what we have in today’s email:
Community Joel McHale’s go-to watch brand.

A FLICK ON THE WRIST
Community star Joel McHale nerds out for Glashütte
Joel McHale, known for his wit and charm on-screen, also has a knack for choosing stylish timepieces off-screen. From his early TV gigs to recent appearances, Joel's watch collection has evolved.
While not officially affiliated with the independent German brand, Joel is clearly enamored with Glashütte Original watches. I love seeing someone in the entertainment world appreciate watches. And not just Rolex and Omega.
With fans like Joel McHale, Glashütte Original continues to thrive in a market that demands quality and innovation.
Hans Zimmer and his indie Alain Silberstein Watch
He's the German maestro behind iconic movie soundtracks. And he knows how to set the right tempo not just in music but also in style. Before he became an IWC ambassador, Hans Zimmer had a penchant for the quirky and colorful creations of Alain Silberstein.
Sporting the Krono Bauhaus 2 in 2008, Zimmer showed off his flair for the avant-garde. The watch's bold design reflects Silberstein's distinctive aesthetic. Despite its indie appeal, the Krono Bauhaus 2 remains within reach for watch enthusiasts seeking something offbeat yet accessible.
Zimmer's eclectic taste in watches is a testament to his creative genius. It's like matching melodies with timeless tick-tocks in a symphony of style.
Summary
Have you noticed a trend in today’s edition? Glashütte? Hans?
Maybe I’m trying to tell you something about my next watch…
I was interested in watches. But I was lost. I couldn't find one place with all the info I needed to make an informed purchase. So I went on a mission. I wrote Watch Collecting 101 to be your one-stop shop. It’s everything you need to know to start collecting. Own The Watch. |
MY NEXT WATCH (PROBABLY)
Sinn 105 St Sa W UTC (White Dial)
You've been here for a while. So you know that the Rolex Explorer II has been my grail watch since I was 13. But I'm near ending that dream. When looking for similar watches, I stumbled upon this. It's the Sinn 105 UTC.
Sinn Spezialuhren is an independent German watch brand. They've been around since 1961 and are one of the top German manufacturers.
Why I Like This Watch
It has a GMT hand, a white dial, and a rotating bezel. The rotating bezel means that you can track three time zones. (one for the hour hand, GMT hand to UTC or Zulu time, rotate the bezel for another time zone)
The 105 UTC also has the date at the 6 o'clock position. I love symmetry and this looks to much better than the 3 o'clock. It has great water resistance and is anti-magnetic. From countless hours watching YouTube videos, this watch can take a beating.
Some Specs:
Case: stainless steel, bead-blasted
Crystal: Sapphire crystal glass in front, anti-reflective on both sides
Water-resistant: 200 m
Case diameter: 41 mm
Band lug width: 20 mm
Case thickness: 11.9 mm
Power Reserve: Up to 56 hours
Summary
Considering I can order this online and it shows up at my house, it’s a strong contender. It’s a high-quality tool watch and at around $2k USD, doesn’t totally break the bank. Unless Rolex pulls something out of its ass and gets me something from my list soon, I may go with the Zinn 105 UTC.

THAT’S ALL FOR TODAY
That wraps up today’s issue of OTW. Did you know that Germany is also known for making watches? I didn’t until recently!
How long would you wait for your grail watch? Am I too impatient (my wife says yes). Hit reply and let me know!
Until next time!
Wear it well and wear it often,
